how to search only one hard drive

Post by big dawg »

Each time I use Search Everything, it searches all the hard drives in my system. I would like it to default to only searching the boot drive.
How do I do this?

If you only want it to actually scan a particular drive, you can set that up in Options | Indexes -> NTFS.

If you only want it to search a particular drive, you can simply enter the wanted drive letter in the search box.

Thanks but I had done that, or so I thought. Turns out I had not noticed that "Auto include new fixed volumes" was still checked. Un-checking that fixed the issue.
Thanks for the help.

1.Create new filter(Search=>Organize Filters=>New)and place in the Search field the drive letter for example C:\ and add a name for the filter
2.Go to Tools=>Options=>Home=>set the Filter to your new filter

Thanks for the additional way to search just one drive.
On another note...is it possible to set a filter to do the following:
1. search on a range of dates, AND
2. file sizes (greater than a certain size) created or modified during that time.

for example...search all files greater than 1 megabyte created or modified from November 20th to November 24th.

Every once in a while I will notice that my daily back up image has grown much larger then the day before. Doing a search, using the parameters above, I can usually pinpoint the file or files that have been added causing the increase and take appropriate action. I can do this in Windows 7 but it is extremely slow.

You can search using multiple filters...check Help=>Search Syntax

dm:20/10/2014..20/11/2014 size:>1mb

and of course anything you can use to search(type in the search field)can be used as a filter the same way I told you above.
You can also save bookmarks with your search criterias
