Folders question - let's be clear about this

Post by Jose Hidalgo »

Hi everybody,

I'm not an Everything user yet, because I need an answer to this question to start using it.

I've searched the forums and I see that Everything has the possibility to search only for files, or only for folders (something about typing file: , folder: , !folder: , etc.)
However this seems to have to be done for every search.

I want to use Everything to search only for folders without having to specify it for every new search.
So, can I configure Everything to search only for folders once and for all ?

Thanks in advance. :)

One method would be to set the Filter to Folder.
(View | Filters, if need be.)

Thanks. What if I wanted it to show only folders and applications ? Would that be possible too ?

Can't we add a Custom Filter/Search to Filters?
So that we can includes Folders & Apps ?

Edit:
I looked for it in the Preferences. At last I found it in the GUI.
GO TO:
Search > Organize Filters
Add a new Filter (In your case I think the custom search would be "folder: | .exe")
After that,
GO TO:
Preferences > Home > Filter:
Choose your custom Filter.

Good Luck

Thanks ! For the record I've started using Everything (which looks great so far), and this filter is giving me good results :

folder: | ext:exe;lnk

This way Everything only shows folders, apps and shortcuts.

I have also excluded the recycle bin contents (C:\$recycle.bin , D:\$recycle.bin and so on).
