multiple installs

Post by fpefpe »

Hello --

I recently installed everything on my computer ... after that I update my copy of JPSoft's take command to the latest version and that
version installs everything too --

Is this a problem? can I have 2 instances of everything running?

Thanks

There's no harm in running multiple copies/versions of Everything.
However, One instance may overwrite the settings of the other instance (depending on where settings and data are saved).

If Tools -> Options -> General -> Store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything is enabled then it is likely both versions are sharing the same location for settings and data. With this option unchecked you should have no trouble running different versions simultaneously.

Normally only one instance of Everything is created, running Everything.exe again will simply open the already running Everything.
Please check only one Everything.exe is running in your Task manager.

Otherwise I would recommend uninstalling the oldest version of Everything, or if you are using the same version, but different machine targets (x86/x64) then use the machine target that's best for you (x86 recommended).

If you do wish to use multiple instances, please see:

Thanks for the info ... take command installed everything in the same folder as take -- and puts the everything.ini in the same place.

Depends on what is in the Everything.ini in the take folder.

Please open the Everything.ini in the take folder and look for:

Code: Select all

app_data=
If app_data=1, then settings and data is stored in %APPDATA%\Everything.
If app_data=0, then settings and data is stored in the same location as your Everything.exe
