Not getting results from my other drives

Post by ealvin »

All of a sudden I'm not getting results from anything other than my :C and :I (passport backup) drives when I search. The parameter is set for "This PC" in Advanced search. Previously it's found things on my D, E and F drives -- but not now. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Do you have any search filters enabled?
See Menu:Search;the only thing selected should be "Everything"
Another quick way to check is looking on the right (*) of the Everything status bar. It should only display a filesize. Double-click anything else there to make it "go away"

I don't understand what you mean by that. Could you post a screenshot of the Advanced search window?

(*)or left, if you use a right-to-left language.

Thanks for your help.

"Everything" is the only thing selected in the Search tab.

I'm not sure what you're referring to regarding, "Another quick way to check is looking on the right (*) of the Everything status bar." I'm not sure where the status bar is located.

Regarding my comment, "The parameter is set for "This PC" in Advanced search. Sorry but I'm not sure how to paste my screen shot into this post. However, I was referring to the Search tab/Advanced Search option. In that window the last option is Browse. Clicking that will show a list of options, starting with Desktop at the very top, and including the option of This PC (which is what I've clicked so as to find everything on my computer. I hope this clarifies it for you.

Thanks again.

Ah, now I get it ...
You don't have to fill in anything in the "Located in" field to search all your files/folders. Just leave it empty.

Temporary forget about the Advanced Search: Do you get any results when you enter
D:
or
E:
or
F:
in the Everything search bar?

BTW: the statusbar is the grey bar on the bottom of the Everything window. You can make it visible with Menu:View > Statusbar

BTW2: When you type a message, there are 2 tabs at the bottom: Options and Attachments. Select attachments and press the "Add files" button. Optionally you can choose to display the uploaded image inline.

Hi. Sorry for the delay. Checked back after a few days and I thought the thread was dead, checked today and found your reply. Thanks so much.

When I type in :F (or any other drive letter) in the search bar with my specific search, I don't get any results.

I have noticed since I started this post there are some very rare times when I do my typical search and I get a result from the :E, :F or :G drives, but most times I don't -- even though those files exist on those drives but don't show up. It's just very inconsistent, but it didn't use to be.

It seems that my :C drive and my :I (backup drive) are pretty consistently reliable in the results they deliver. My other drive searches perform poorly.

I'm sure this is confounding but I greatly appreciate anything you or anyone else can offer to solve this problem. Thanks again for your help.

Please make sure "Include in database" is checked for all your NTFS volumes:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the NTFS tab on the left.
  • For each volume listed:
    • Check Include in database.
  • Click OK.
Please try forcing a rebuild:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the Indexes tab on the left.
  • Click Force Rebuild.
  • Click OK.

forced rebuild was the solution for me, too.
I updated to win10 x64 1809, maybe that messed up the index?
Now it's working again.
