Searching shared computer

Post by sarjand »

Hi everyone. I'm wondering if it's possible to enable Search for files on another computer on a home network.
I use Search EVERY day and couldn't be without it.

To add a network share to your Everything index:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the Folders tab.
  • Click Add....
  • Select the network share to add to the Everything index, for example:
    \\server\share
  • Click OK.
  • Click OK.

Ah, I'd had a look there but didn't know what to do as nothing was coming up under Network. I think I have to add this via the computer the files are on? Going away for the weekend so will let you know how I go.
Many thanks for this.

Please note that, if you are running Everything as an administrator, you will not be able to see your mapped network drives.

Please try running Everything as a standard user:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the General tab on the left.
  • Check Everything service.
  • Uncheck Run as administrator.
  • Click OK.
  • Restart Everything (right click the Everything tray icon and click Exit).
Folder indexes are client side, please add the folder on your client (ie: not the server).

Thank you so much! I've now found the folder I was looking for and it's doing a scan. :) This is fantastic - to be able to include searching on another computer. And so quick! Love it!!
