Everything automatically closes after a second

Post by jpboyrox »

Every time I open Everything, it automatically closes after about one second. The icon stays in the system tray until I hover over it with the mouse. Multiple icons stay in the system tray if I open Everything multiple time although only one opens at a time. I reinstalled it but the same thing happen. It even happens if I have barely any programs running. But I will run some more tests by stopping all programs and seeing if it works. Any thoughts?

"Everything" is crashing.

Are there any errors reported in your Errorlog.txt file in your "Everything" installation folder?

Try deleting your Everything.db in your "Everything" installation folder.

Try running "Everything" in debug mode.

To run "Everything" in debug mode:
Run Everything.exe with the -debug command line option.
For example:

Code: Select all

Everything.exe -debug
What is displayed in the debug console?

I will try that now, I realised that it crashes only after scanning the computer for files

There is no errorlog.txt file by the installation folder I assume you mean C:\Programs\Everything
Deleting Everything.db means that it takes longer to scan the computer but it crashes after it has finished scanning. Running in debug mode opens a cmd window but it crashes anyway

Corrupt file systems can make "Everything" unstable.

Please check your NTFS volumes for errors.

To check your NTFS volumes for errors:
  • Open My Computer.
  • For each NTFS volume:
    • Right click.
    • Click Properties.
    • Click the Tools tab.
    • Click Check Now....
    • Check Automatically fix file system errors.
    • Click Start.

Doesn't seem to have done much. I have started using locate32 but it isn't half as good
