Find files in one folder duplicated anywhere else

Post by Still-learning »

Hello. I would like to know how to search for all the files in one folder that might be duplicated anywhere else on the computer. Can anyone help me to understand how to do that please?

I created a file list in the File List Editor and added it to the File List in the Options box. I don't know if this was necessary.

I have looked on the forum and the closest query I found is viewtopic.php?f=5&t=7644&p=25771&hilit= ... der#p25771 but it is a slightly different query and may have a more up to date answer a year later.

I am still fairly new to the software so I have been using Everything for simple searches so far. I would appreciate any advice.

Thank you.

Everything does not have a compare folders feature.

For now, to find duplicated files in multiple locations, please try the following:
  • In Everything, find the files of interest. for example, search for:
    "d:\folder1\" | "e:\folder2\"
  • From the File menu, click Export....
  • Change Save as type to EFU Everything File List.
  • Choose a filename and click Save.
  • From the File menu, click Open File List....
  • Select the filelist you saved earlier and click Open.
  • Please try searching for dupe: to find duplicated filenames, or search for sizedupe: to find files with the same size (hint: sort by size descending).
  • When you are finished with the results, close your filelist:
  • From the File menu, click Close file list.
