I have a network share that I just added to my Everything search, but I'd really like to have a separate instance (not sure what to call it) that ONLY includes this one share, and not everything else on my PC. (Windows 10)
Can I create a separate something that I could then open just for working in this file share, but still have a different "something" to use for my regular use on my entire PC?
New to using Everything, but loving it. It is SO MUCH faster on my network share than using Windows Explorer!
Thanks,
Donna
Limit to one folder temporarily?
Re: Limit to one folder temporarily?
Please try Multiple Instances:
Alternately, if you wish to have only one index and switch between local and network, please try a filter:
- Launch Everything.exe with -instance "network"
- Everything.exe -instance "network"
---please include the quotes.
---network can be any name you like. - If prompted with access denied, choose Do not index NTFS volumes.
- Setup your network index from Tools -> Options -> Folders.
- Create a shortcut to Everything.exe -instance "network" for quick access from the desktop, start menu, taskbar etc..
Alternately, if you wish to have only one index and switch between local and network, please try a filter:
- In Everything, from the Search menu, click Add to filters....
- Change the Name to:
Network - Change the Search to:
"\\server\share\"
---please include the quotes.
---where \\server\share is your network share or mapped network drive. - Click OK.
- From the Search menu, click Add to filters....
- Change the Name to:
Local - Change the Search to:
!"\\server\share\"
---please include the quotes.
---where \\server\share is your network share or mapped network drive.
---! = NOT - Click OK.
Re: Limit to one folder temporarily?
Thank you for the suggestions. I'll try these next time I need to use just the shared drive.

Re: Limit to one folder temporarily?
Thanks again! Spelling out the network share didn't work, but I have it mapped as a drive, so I referenced "V:" instead and it works!
I appreciate the help!
