How is the Everything Server different from the ETP Server?

How's that different from ETP server?

ETP:

Searching is done on the server.
Very little bandwidth required.
Client only get a small window of results at a time. (cannot select all results)
Uses windows shares or FTP to access files.
No license required.
Free.



Everything Server:

Searching is done on the client.
Minimal bandwidth required.
Clients have a copy of the server index.
Clients can keep their index up to date with the server.
Uses windows shares to access files.
Site license is required for business/enterprise use.
Free for personal use.

An ETP client has no local database. Every search query is sent out to the ETP Server, which checks it's local database and will reply to the ETP client which files were found that matched the query. The ETP client will show that list.


The Everything Server updates your regular Everything real-time with the changes made on the 'Everything Servre-side'. They end up in your regular Everything database.

So instead of re-scanning the network on a schedule ('pull'), you can let the Everything Server do the work and 'push' *just* the changes real-time to your local Everything.
