Weird Index Issue - Maybe bug (not sure)

Post by UWK87 »

First of all, fantastic software. I have been using it for years now and absolutely love it.

The issue that I am facing is this:
  • I search for a file called SCANPST.exe. I know this file has existed on my system since I installed Office
  • every time I search for it, it comes back with nothing.
  • Without doing anything, I will click on force rebuild, and it will show up immediately after the scan is completed
  • This goes away after a couple of days
Please see the attachments with the post. Between Image 004 & 005, the only action that I took was Force Rebuild. Also, the attachment contains settings for NTFS indexes.

This file is a hard link.

Everything 1.4 doesn't track hard links.

Everything 1.5 will track new hard links.

Thank you so much for the prompt response. I installed Everything 1.5a, hopefully, the issue goes away. Just a quick question, how did you know that the file was a hard link?

You don't know, particularly.
Given the circumstances, you might surmise it.

And then you can actually check - which is anything but straight forward.

There are utilities (or even built-in MS programs); NTFSLinksView, Link Shell Extension (LSE), FindLinks, ...

... Everything 1.5 ! :D

Right-click the header of the result-list and select File > Hard Link Count. That will add that column to the resultlist.

Now serach for SCANPST.exe (if you installed Office)
For all the files where Hard Link Count > 1, it's a hard-link.
