Preview pane 10-page limitation when previewing a pdf

Post by TheoAlex »

Hi,

Long time lurker, first time poster. Everything is everything I ever wanted (pun intended though I realise it must be an old one) but just today I noticed I could not scroll past the 10th page of a pdf in the preview pane and the message "This PDF contains more than 10 pages. Open the document to view all pages" shows up in a yellow line; no such problem has arised regarding other files). What's even stranger is that I noticed the same problem in the Windows Explorer preview pane 2 days ago so I guess the two issues are related.

I've switched from Foxit Reader to Adobe but the problem remains. Also, not sure if relevant but I also downloaded the laterst Windows update two days ago.

Best,

Theo

Everything uses the OS to render the PDF preview.
Everything will behave the same as Windows Explorer.

Please try uninstalling and reinstalling your PDF program.

Please make sure you are using the x64 version of Everything.

Please make sure Everything is running as a standard user:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the General tab on the left.
  • Check Store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything
  • Uncheck Run as administrator.
  • Check Everything Service. (Please make sure this is tick-checked and not square-checked)
  • Click OK.
  • Exit Everything (right click the Everything tray icon and click Exit).
  • Restart Everything.

For technical details, Everything will try to load the IPreviewHandler from the following locations in your registry:
  • .pdf\ShellEx\{8895b1c6-b41f-4c1c-a562-0d564250836f}
  • <PDFclass>\ShellEx\{8895b1c6-b41f-4c1c-a562-0d564250836f}
  • SystemFileAssociations\.pdf\ShellEx\{8895b1c6-b41f-4c1c-a562-0d564250836f}

Many thanks for the prompt response - so I guess the problem stems from Windows.

I've already followed all these steps (I came across them at a different post regarding pdfs not showing up on the preview pane) but to no avail.

I've also asked the same question (regarding the Windows Explorer) in the Microsoft Community - will post here any meaningful answer I might receive there.

Best and thanks again,

I use SumatraPDF and there is no limit on number of pages in the preview.

As I was running out of ideas, I re-reinstalled Foxit Reader and it seems to be working fine for now - maybe there was a glitch the first time I reinstalled it. Just to be on the safe side, I switched to Adobe and it works fine as well, thought I still dont get how the limitation came about in the first place (it's not as if the preview pane was not working after all).

Anyways, problem solved - many thanks for your time.
