How to backup options

Post by searcher1 »

Hi

Is there a way to backup options...as in Tools > Options?
So that after a clean install I can set my options with a single action.

I already know how to backup bookmarks and filters, so I just want to backup options only.

Thank You

Everything.ini.

There are other files you may want.
Search & Run History.csv, Filters.csv, maybe any .efu files (perhaps less useful for what you described)...

Another method to backup settings only:
  • In Everything, type in the following and press ENTER:
    /config_save
Choose a filename for your settings backup and click Save.
To load your settings from a backup:
  • In Everything, type in the following and press ENTER:
    /config_load
Select your settings backup and click Open.
    Restart Everything:
In Everything, type in the following and press ENTER:
    /restart

My folder, "C:\Users\[UserName]\AppData\Roaming\Everything" contains 2 files:
  • Everything.ini
    Run History.csv
Does the absence of "Search History.csv", "Filters.csv" and .efu files in that folder mean that my "Search History" is not being saved? ... and I need to change a setting since I want my search history to be saved?

Everything might be trying to save your settings to the same location as your Everything.exe.

Please make sure Store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything is enabled:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the General tab on the left.
  • Check Store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything.
  • Click OK.

Please make sure Search History is enabled:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the History tab on the left.
  • Check Enable Search History.
  • Click OK.

Everything will save your search history to disk when you close an Everything window or exit Everything.

"Filters.csv" is only saved to disk if you make a change to your default filters.

There shouldn't be any EFU files in %APPDATA%\Everything.
