modified-[Enter]

Post by meteorquake »

Minor issue but probably readily implemented.
Currently shift-Enter does nothing, likewise various other modifier combinations eg Ctrl-Shift-Enter. In Explorer it launches the file, which then is able to pick up the presence of the modifiers, which some programs do (a common example would be shift-launching an MSAccess file, and the shift is detected and disables the startup macro).
I'm not sure if there are any plans to utilise these but where unused I would suggest any modified Enter-press launches the file. Currently you have to hit Enter then immediately hold down the modifiers which works if there's enough time gap.

I have set Shift + Enter to open in the next alpha update.

For now, to open items with Shift + Enter:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the Keyboard tab on the left.
  • To the right of Show commands containing, search for: open
  • Select File | Open
  • Click Add....
  • Press Shift + Enter and Click OK.
  • Click OK.
Thank you for the suggestion.

'CTRL + SHIFT + ENTER' is becoming the de facto standard in Windows to start programs elevated.
(In the Run box or on the taskbar, for example).

If you want the same in Everything:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the Keyboard tab on the left.
  • To the right of Show commands containing, search for: run as
  • Select File | Run As
  • Click Add....
  • Press Control + Shift + Enter and Click OK.
  • Click OK.

Any chance of getting this to work for Ctrl + Shift + Double-Click
and Ctrl + Shift + [Right-Click -> Open] ?
