Update database whenever I search

Post by miogpsrocks »

Why does this software always update the database whenever I am trying to search.

I want to search now not in 5 minutes.

IS there a way to disable this update of the database unless the software is not in use or maybe at 3AM in the morning instead of when I am trying to search?

Thanks.

Thank you for your feedback miogpsrocks,

Everything can take a long time to update if you make a lot of file system changes while Everything is not running.

For the best experience, please make sure Everything is running in the background:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the General tab on the left.
  • Check Store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything.
  • Uncheck Run as administrator.
  • Check Everything Service. (Please make sure this is tick-checked and not square-checked)
  • check Start Everything on system startup.
  • Click the UI tab on the left.
  • Check Run in background.
  • Click OK.
  • Exit Everything (right click the Everything tray icon and click Exit).
  • Restart Everything.

-or-

Run Everything without a database with the -nodb command line option:

Everything.exe -nodb

Everything will build a fresh index on startup which will most likely be faster than updating the existing index.
Please make sure Everything is not running before calling this command.

The next major version of Everything will update in the background so you can search immediately.
If you would like to try this now, please check out the Everything 1.5 alpha.
