Search inside the images

Post by baalan92 »

There are most of the images in a folder. But memorizing the file names are impossible. So if I entered the search criteria in the search box it also search inside the image too.

Just what are you searching within an image for, a Tag?
If so, I believe that Everything 1.5 Alpha can do that.

Will Everything 1.5 Alpha search inside the image? Not only the tags value. Read the image and find the search criteria.

No.

Do the images contain letters?
I will consider adding support for Windows 10 Optical Character Recognition (OCR)

I am testing version 1.5 right now, but couldn't manage to find any tags or keywords in my images, even though i think i had the right indexing options. Any idea, how to get this done?

Please try the following to find the correct tag-property:
  • In Everything 1.5, search for a image that you know has a tag, for example:
    "c:\my images\example.jpg"
  • Select this file.
  • Right click the result list column header and click Add columns....
  • Right click the property list column header and check Preview.
  • Locate which property shows your tag.
  • Select this property and click OK.
What type of image are you tagging? eg: jpg, png, tiff?
What type of tag property are you using? IPTC tags? Exif Tags? JPEG tags?

Well, i have that column already, to show those tags in JPEG/JPG, although i couldn't find (in the german version) the "Preview" menu item.

For the tagging i am using Directory Opus, but that shouldn't matter. Anyway, i was looking for a way to use Everything to search for those tags/keywords. And thanks, i like the Alpha already. Great, that we can even search for words within files.

Edit, yes, it's EXIF tags.

And to think, I just finished writing a complicated-ish python script to retrieve tags from mp4s and jpegs, generalize them with an existing inference ontology (using a DARPA Agent Markup Language knockoff), (so lily->flower), and then store everything in the filename so I don't have to wait 50 years for File Explorer to load a directory.

I have no idea why Windows can't cache *ANYTHING*, not even its thumbnails, it seems. Fortunately, we have Everything to pick up the slack. =)
