Exit Everything and copy the following Everything.ini lines to Everything-1.5a.ini:

Code: Select all

ntfs_volume_guids=
ntfs_volume_paths=
ntfs_volume_roots=
ntfs_volume_includes=
ntfs_volume_load_recent_changes=
ntfs_volume_include_onlys=
ntfs_volume_monitors=
refs_volume_guids=
refs_volume_paths=
refs_volume_roots=
refs_volume_includes=
refs_volume_load_recent_changes=
refs_volume_include_onlys=
refs_volume_monitors=
filelists=
filelist_monitor_changes=
folders=
folder_monitor_changes=
folder_buffer_size_list=
folder_rescan_if_full_list=
folder_update_types=
folder_update_days=
folder_update_ats=
folder_update_intervals=
folder_update_interval_types=
The default Everything 1.4 path is:
%APPDATA%\Everything\Everything.ini

The default Everything 1.5a path is:
%APPDATA%\Everything\Everything-1.5a

Paste these old ini lines at the end of the your Everything-1.5a.ini
These will overwrite any existing ini settings.

Please also consider the following ini settings:

Code: Select all

auto_include_fixed_volumes=
auto_include_removable_volumes=
auto_remove_offline_ntfs_volumes=
auto_remove_moved_ntfs_volumes=
auto_include_fixed_refs_volumes=
auto_include_removable_refs_volumes=
auto_remove_offline_refs_volumes=
auto_remove_moved_refs_volumes=
exclude_folders=

Thank you very much!

Sorry, but this really copies the volumes / indexes from 1.4 to 1.5(?):

All of my own settings are already copied to 1.5.

This only copies your settings.

Are you looking to import an old Everything 1.4 database into Everything 1.5?
This can only be done by exporting your index as an EFU file list with Everything 1.4 and including that file list in your Everything 1.5 index.

Their / the indexes at least, so if doing it is (only) possible by copying the 1.4 database, yes, then the old database.
db2efu converts your Everything.db file to an Everything file list.
Or I can just make a efu file with all of the drives to be copied? This would be the same?

Are these volumes offline and no longer available?
If so, use db2efu to convert your old Everything 1.4 db to a single efu file.

Modify the EFU file with the file list editor to include only the desired volumes (sort by path and remove unwanted volumes).

Include the file list in Everything 1.5 from Tools -> Options -> File Lists.

The drives (is volume the same as drive here?) are offline but still available.

It does not seem to go on here, nothing seems to happen:

With Everything 1.4?

So it would not be good to exclude all of the volumes / drives in 1.4 I do not want

click "Export"

save the efu file and do(?):
Include the file list in Everything 1.5 from Tools -> Options -> File Lists.
There is a drawback doing it like this anstead of using db2efu.exe?

db2efu may take several minutes to save.

Yes, if you have Everything 1.4 still installed, setup your search to exclude undesired volumes and export as an EFU from File -> Export.

db2efu may take several minutes to save.
Will this keep the folder structure? So can one see the volumes in this folder panel(?):

That will have the same result as doing it with db2efu.exe?

db2efu will keep the same folder structure and will be the same as exporting from Everything 1.4 from File -> Export.

Great, everything seems to work fine now.

Thank you very much!

Could I rename the old indexes. e.g. with the drive letter(?):

Yes, rename them in the EFU file list.
Cannot find the names there in Notepad. So I can rename the names of the indexes (having the same name) "Alle alten Indexe von 1.4...." in the folder panel?

How could one remove a drive / volume from the efu file? E.g. drive O:? It does not appear to be possible doing it in the right folder pane in Everything.

The folder sidebar will display the EFU filelist filename as the label.

Yes, I had seen it, that is why I meant how one could rename those items. E.g. to the drive letters. How could one do it?

Break the single EFU file list into separate EFU file lists.
One EFU file list for each volume.
Name the EFU file list filename the same as the drive letter.
For example, save a separate EFU file list of your D: drive and call the EFU file list: D.efu
