Indexing network folders missing subfolders and files

i have a network drive that i've mapped in the form of J:\Jobs\2022\12345 Acme Co
Inside the 12345 Acme Co folder are multiple folders, each with files in them. I have selected the 2022 folder for indexing with Include subfolders option selected. I regularly disconnect from the drive. On my 2022 folder, my index only shows the job folder (12345 Acme Co, etc) but nothing inside the folders.

Why is my index missing all the subfolders and files on just one network folder location?

my root level 2021 and 2020 folders do not have the same problem. all appear to be identically set up. Also, the actual network drive shows as mapped in Everything options.

Have you set any exclude folders or exclude filters under Tools -> Options -> Exclude?
A common issue is excluding hidden/system files/folders.

When the volume is online, does rescanning the folder from "Tools -> Options -> Folders -> network folder -> Rescan Now" find the missing files?
-This will help determine if the rescan is causing the issue.

It usually does. but since there are hundreds of thousands of active files that i need to index it takes at least an hour or more every time. fast rescan has been unhelpful for this situation. most of my folders are in this main 2022 folder, so i have to resort to using the windows search. painful! =)

What is so painfull using Windows search ?
Using Everything 1.5 you can even query the Windows index.

Fast rescan only works on NTFS (or NTFS compatible) volumes.
Is the remote volume on an NTFS volume?
-If not, please try disabling fast rescan and force a rescan under Tools -> Options -> Folders -> Network share -> Rescan Now.
Does the issue persist?

Enabling fast rescan on non-NTFS volumes may cause Everything to miss updates and treat some folders as empty.

I didn't have fast rescan on. The issue is still ongoing, when i log off my user or restart my computer, it wants to rescan everything which takes a long time for the 1.8 million files in the index. it has been indexing since 7:30 am and is now 3:30pm and still not finished.

Could you please tells us a little more about your network drive? what type of hardware are you using?

Indexing a windows share of 1.8 million files should only take a few minutes.



Please make sure folder_update_thread_mode_background is disabled (set to 0).
Enabling folder_update_thread_mode_background can cause Everything to take hours to rescan.


While Everything is rescanning, under Tools -> Options -> Folders, if you hover over the "rescanning..." text (top right) the current folder being scanned is shown.
Does the folder being rescanned change often? does Everything appear stuck on a particular folder?
