I would like to be able to connect to shared drives on my office network. I would prefer to not even know what an ETP is. I would like to just be able to search Shared drives. If that is not possible, I would like to be able to configure all my PCs to search on the network server (one ETP) and locally. I don't want to have to train my staff to use more than one Everything search to search the network ... because they won't ! This is especially true because we are using a competing free product that already does this.
If ETPs must be used to connect to Servers / Other PCs.
I would like to be able to configure them once ... and be done with it. As the illustration suggests, I would like my Everything search to automatically connect to configured ETPs.
Connnecting and disconnecting from multiple ETPs very much seems like a network admin type tool. I think Everything should look at becoming a commercial product for Small Businesses. I have a plethora of suggestions if you are considering moving Everything in this direction.
I must admit I am devastated that I can't easily get access to my files on my server as I assumed it would work as well as the killer local searching. Thank god it's Friday, I couldn't take this on a Monday.
Looking forward to watching Everything progress into everything it can be !

Re: Autoconnect to configured ETPs
A simple toggle could be helpful as well.
Re: Autoconnect to configured ETPs
Scanning local shares might be a possibility for a future release of "Everything".
The idea would be to scan each root share for Everything.db (file list database) and include this when indexing the database.
The server would have to update these Everything.db (file list databases) whenever appropriate.
The client side would update automatically.
The same approach is planned for FAT/FAT32 volumes / CD roms / DVD Roms etc.

Did this ever come to fruition ?David wrote:Scanning local shares might be a possibility for a future release of "Everything".
