Exclude list resets my fast sort properties

Post by qxx »

Enabling or disabling the exclude list makes the program "forget" my fast sort properties and starts to index the properties again. I can still sort by my fast sort properties so it still remember them but needs to index them again?

If excluded files/folders are included again in Everything's database, Everything needs to scan these files.

When fast sort is enabled, Everything builds a pre-sorted list of all files/folders. If new files are included -- in this case the previously excluded files -- the new, extended list of files has to be pre-sorted again, to detect the right order.

Instead of using the exclude list, you can also make use of omitting files/folders. In that case the fast sort properties are kept up-to-date, regardless if those files are omitted or not.

Ok, I've started using the omit results function. Every time I open Everything it starts indexing properties again. I don't have an exclude list anymore. Under 'Index' I have 'Update Index' and 'Update Index Properties' enabled. I have seven Properties with fast sort enabled, Everything took a few hours to index them yesterday and finished. Now it's indexing again although I haven't added any new files to my drives.

There's a bug currently causing Everything to reindex properties.

I am looking into the issue.

What is the last rebuild reason shown under Tools -> Debug -> Statistics -> Build -> Last Rebuild Reason?

If you exit Everything and restart Everything, does Everything reindex your properties:
  • In Everything, from the File menu, click Exit.
  • Restart Everything
  • Does Everything reindex your properties?

My computer's been on sleep over night, after I woke it up Everything started reindexing. If I restart it, it restarts the reindexing.

Thanks for the information qxx,

What properties are you indexing:
  • In Everything, from the Help menu, click Troubleshooting Information.
  • Look for the following near the bottom:
    Config: properties=[{...}]
  • What is shown for you?

Code: Select all

/properties=[{"name":"Dimensions","include-only-files":"*.jpg;*.png;*.gif;*.tif;*.tiff;*.mkv;*.mp4;*.avi;*.flv;*.webm","fast-sort":1},{"name":"Height","include-only-files":"*.jpg;*.png;*.gif;*.tif;*.tiff;*.mkv;*.mp4;*.avi;*.flv;*.webm","fast-sort":1},{"name":"Length","include-only-files":"*.flac;*.mp3;*.wav;*.ogg;*.mkv;*.mp4;*.avi;*.flv;*.webm","fast-sort":1},{"name":"property-system:System.StructuredQuery.Virtual.DateCreated","include-folders":1,"include-only-files":"*.jpg;*.png;*.gif;*.tif;*.tiff;*.mkv;*.mp4;*.avi;*.flv;*.webm","fast-sort":1},{"name":"Total Bit Rate","include-only-files":"*.mkv;*.mp4;*.avi;*.flv;*.webm","fast-sort":1},{"name":"Video Bit Rate","include-only-files":"*.mkv;*.mp4;*.avi;*.flv;*.webm","fast-sort":1},{"name":"Width","include-only-files":"*.jpg;*.png;*.gif;*.tif;*.tiff;*.mkv;*.mp4;*.avi;*.flv;*.webm","fast-sort":1}]

Thanks for the properties.

I have found the issue most likely causing the trouble after hunting for days!

The property system properties are not sorted correctly.
The order changes randomly.
Everything will sometimes see the different order as a change in indexed properties.

I'll have a fix soon.

For now, please try removing your property system properties.
(in your case: System.StructuredQuery.Virtual.DateCreated - shown as Created)

Everything 1.5.0.1336a fixes an issue with Everything reindexing properties when indexing a property system property.

Thank you for your help with finding the issue.

I'm using version 1.5.0.1337a and the problem still seems to be happening. The last rebuild reason has changed to "Add NTFS volume." but I haven't added a new drive?

NTFS volumes are added automatically (depending on some settings).

Please check menu:Tools => Options => Indexes => NTFS to see if a new volume was added (maybe an external disk?)

No new volumes. I have two internal drives and two external that have been connected to my PC for the last few days.
