Hidden properties not showing up in win xplorer

Post by anmac1789 »

There is a hidden folder that shows up in everything but it is NOT visible in windows explorer. I have tried to uncheck hidden in the properties dialog of that folder inside everything but, it still doesn't show up within windows explorer. Why is this occurring?

Possibly a system folder? Try unchecking hidden system files.

Wouldn't it be fine if you told us the name and location of this hidden folder ?
Also there are several settings in Windows Explorer which controls if certain files are shown.
Files or folder with Hidden or System attributes for example.

I've never come across that before. T wonder if it's something to do with permissions?

Possibly an elevated command prompt would solve it.

What version of Windows are you using?

Just realised, do you mean it's greyed out in the properties tab, or the folder>tools>options.

Could you post a screenshot?

I use Win 7 but I assume this is the same as Win 10...Open a folder, go to tools then folder options, then click on the view tab. You should see a couple of entries, show hidden files, folders and drives, and hide protected operating system files.

Both of those options are turned on

As others mention, please try enabling hidden files and disabling hide protected operating system files in Windows Explorer.

If you can right click the folder and change the attributes then the folder likely exists.

Can you open the folder from Everything? -or do you see an error message? what is the error message?

Everything might be showing a non-existing folder.
Please try forcing a rebuild:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the Indexes tab on the left.
  • Click Force Rebuild.
  • Click OK.

I'll try that tonight but why do I have to force rebuild for little changes to the index ? I thought that everything auto detects changes?

You shouldn't have to force a rebuild.

It sounds like the folder really exists (you said you can change its attributes)

Please let me know if this folder still exists after forcing a rebuild.

The folder does exist in C: and i dont know what else to do so instead I changed its security permissions for the entire parent folder
