Using an ETP server and local Everything DB at same time ?

Post by denisf »

Hi All,

First off, what a great program, many thanks for all the work that has been done.

I bet this is possible but I am probably just missing something. With one instance of Everything I'd like to search both my local drive C: and an ETP server. Can this be done and if so how do I do it ?

Thanks,
Denis

Thank you for your feedback.

Please try creating an ETP instance

Disable ETP in your main unnamed instance.
Launch Everything with:
Everything.exe -instance "ETP Server"
Take note of the instance name shown in the window title bar and system tray icon.
Setup your indexes and enable the ETP Server in this new instance.

Many thanks for the response.
Sorry, but I am not understanding. I used the word "instance" w/o realizing it has a meaning in the Everything world, perhaps that is the problem.
What I would like to do is to be able to search my localhost as well as an ETP Server on another machine, all at the same time, that is to say with launching Everything just once. From studying your answer it seems that we are talking about different things ?
Sorry if I wasn't clear,
Denis

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Do you want to search both your local machine and an ETP server at the same time?
Unfortunately, Everything doesn't have support for indexing ETP servers yet.

Please try the Everything Server.
The Everything Server is replacing ETP.
The Everything Server will allow you to index your local drives and a remote Everything index at the same time.

-or-

Please consider adding a network share as a folder index (instead of using ETP):
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the Folders tab.
  • Click Add....
  • Select your network share or mapped network drive and click OK.
  • Click OK.
