Multimedia

Post by Цувасэ »

Please integrate independent or integrated multimedia playback into everything's preview mode. Of all the features requested, implementing this one would be a milestone across the entire internet.

Everything should already preview most media files out of the box.

Everything will use the system to preview files.

Third party preview handlers can be installed.

Playback without a third party is what I am requesting. Independent of the system but integrating into it. Eradicating the need for third parties etcetera.

I will consider adding built-in media playback to Everything.

Thank you for the suggestions.

More of such request and Everything should replace the OS and all tools :)
There are many file formats to play and there is no need to program an additional player.
Windows Preview handlers exists for all popular formats.

Everything is a light filename search engine.

I would like to avoid adding bloat to Everything.

However, I will consider your suggestion.

There are other ways to preview files on Windows.
winmm is one option.
Perhaps a built-in player could be added to utilize this or other APIs or as a plugin.

Windows Multimedia API is not very good. It will not even playback an animated gif in 2023/24. I understand you would like to keep it "light", however it would be good if software could keep the operating system light by eliminating dependency on other software. You do not have to reinvent the wheel to implement this feature. There are plenty of premium open source libraries similar to vlc that could be integrated.

The most efficient way to do it might be to create a add-on or extension feature. This way the core application can remain 'light" while giving your users the ability to add features.

It would be very useful to FULLY and INTERACTIVELY preview a directory full of animatef .gifs, videos and music without having to perform more software installation.

It would also benefit the security of the operating system by having less applications as well.

(I'm not, typically, a "preview" [or thumbnails] type of person.
So I rarely use Preview [or thumbnails] in Everything.
[Though I do use thumbnails in IrfanView. Just seems more logical to me to do so, & it works better, for me.
Find what I want with Everything, thumb them with IV.]

As far as implementing a media player "in" Everything, I'd be totally against that.

As a "plugin", for me, eh.
I'll just click on a file, & a second later, it's displaying in my player.
Or, like with images, I'll find my ".gifs" in Everything, & simply throw them into my player [then hotkey to the next, to the next...].

Anyhow, libmpv, essentially a single .dll [that you could hook into... & it certainly can do animated gif ;-).])

FULLY
No such thing. But some softwares can come close to "fully".
