Everything refuses to index sata NTFS drives

Post by PPP100 »

I had a previous issue with tag searching (unresolved) But I now have a more severe problem.
No matter what I do, my internal NTFS sata drives are not being indexed.
Tried reinstalling - run as administrator.
Drives E & H (sata internal NTFS) are not being indexed automatically .
I find the tick for "include in database" is unticked - so I manually tick it and apply/Ok

But when I immediately go to tools/options to check if the setting has stuck-
the tick for "include in database" is now gone! for either drive , E or H!
it keeps unticking itself!

the settings just won't stick and the drives aren't being automatically included as default and manual setting
to include in database isn't sticking.
Adding the H drive as a folder and trying a rebuild also doesn't help.
Everything can still only see the C: drive, not the E or H drives.

Tell us about your E: & H: drives?
Each are physical devices (rather then a volume letters on 1 device)?

They are local drive (rather then network or mapped or...)?
Mapped drive letters are User specific.
So if you are User PPP100, & you then run Everything "as admin", then Everything will not see those mappings (unless you also map the same while running "as admin"). (Though, Everything is seeing the drive letters, in this case...)

What version of Everything?
Tried reinstalling - run as administrator.
Other then trying, I take it you are not 'run as admin' (ordinarily)?
it keeps unticking itself
If you can some other arbitrary setting, then restart Everything, is that setting then unticked?
I.e., might Everything.ini be set to read-only?

Ok, thanks for reply, I worked it out.

They were as I mentioned SATA internal drives , not network or mapped drives.
What I found and realised , was that I had the H drive in exclusions
The reinstall still kept the previous settings so didn't clear that from previous config.
Also "restore defaults" for index settings, which I tried didn't help.
(I suppose possibly down the line I would have tried to remove all traces of Everything , then reinstall.
I did try downloading and running the portable version , but that had the same behaviour (inheriting previous settings, it seems)
Both E and H drives are mostly kept identical , though only one is the main storage drive , the other, the backup,.
I excluded one previously ,as I kept getting duplicate results as they are mostly identical , as mentioned
though I now treat H as the main storage (aside from C) and E as the backup to H. So I dont really need E to be indexed for now.
So it seems when you exclude a drive , you get the behaviour I got where the tick to manually "include in database" won't stick.

Excluding the H: drive and checking Tools -> Options -> NTFS -> "Automatically remove offline volumes" will automatically uncheck "Include in database" for the H: drive.

I recommend leaving "Automatically remove offline volumes" unchecked.
