Open multiple file lists

Hello,

With the addition of the Folders panel, file lists have become more and more useful and it'd be nice to see further progress on this feature.

My main request now would be to be able to open multiple file lists at once. There are times when you don't know where your file is, and in this type of scenario, this would be something very useful to have.

Did you know that you can add these filelists to Everything itself, so they are shown in the resultlist too?
(Menu:Tools > Options > Indexes > File lists).

It is also possible to show the name of the EFU filelist there too, so you know which filelist each result comes from.


Another option would be to select multiple EFU files in Everything and press ENTER to open each EFU file in it's own Evertyhing window.


IS this what you mean by opening multiple file lists? If so, which one (to describe in more detail)?

For now, please consider creating a new instance and adding multiple file lists:

• Create a shortcut to Everything with the following command line option:
  "C:\Program Files\Everything\Everything64.exe" -instance "File lists" -no-auto-include
• Run this shortcut to start the "File lists" instance.
• In this new instance, from the Tools menu, click Options.
• Click the File Lists tab on the left.
• Click Add...
• Select your file lists and click Open.
• Repeat for additional file lists.
• Click OK.

Thank you for both messages: they were very useful.

Adding permanently my file lists would produce undesirable results (too much noise), as I normally just look for files on the SSD of my laptop and the hard drives that I have plugged in at any given time.

However, there are times when I don't know where a certain file is (not even in which hard drive), and on these particular occasions, I'd like to be able to load, on the same instance of Everything, every one of my file lists, corresponding to my different hard drives, in order to locate my file.

Meanwhile, I have tried to trick with the comand line and it works! I'm not sure what it does, but I presume it blocks the indexing and it just shows files contained in my file lists.

By the way, I've noticed that the information displayed on the "File List Filename" column in aligned to the right: is there a way to align it to the left?

The filename will be left aligned in the next alpha update.

Put all file lists in a folder, add MasterEFU.cmd and start it. Done.

Hi! I've tried a bit more running a different instance of Everything and, as I said, it works!

However, dealing with extended characters to test NotNull's approach, I ended up moving the folder containing the file lists to a different location. In this scenario, I would have thought that Everything, unable to find the EFU files, would update the database resulting in no file being indexed. However, Everything still displays all the files within the EFU files. Clicking on "Force Rebuild" doesn't affect anything.

Hi, @void,

I don't want to sound pushy, but I just wanted to kindly ask you not to forget about this feature, please. Having more than one file list open at the same time would be extremely useful, as there are times when you're looking for certain files that might appear on more than one place. I'm also thinking about those cases where you're not sure where your files are.
