Adopting ini files

Post by nagan »

Hi,
Just installed the 647b. I had 645b run from "C:\Program Files\Everything\Everything-1.3.2.645b\Everything.exe" and installed 647b to C:\Program Files\Everything\Everything-1.3.2.647b\Everything.exe while the earlier version was running.

The options , folders and keyboard shortcuts have adopted the original default settings. What is to done to carry on the spec to the next version. Is it not working because I have not installed to the default folder?

Copy your Everything.ini file from C:\Program Files\Everything\Everything-1.3.2.645b to C:\Program Files\Everything\Everything-1.3.2.647b
Please make sure Everything-1.3.2.647b is not running when you copy this file.

You can also copy the following files to preserve filters, bookmarks and search history:
Filters.csv
Bookmarks.csv
Search History.csv

Copy your Everything.ini file from C:\Program Files\Everything\Everything-1.3.2.645b to C:\Program Files\Everything\Everything-1.3.2.647b
I was aware of that, just wondering if there was any other workaround. In that case please allow me to suggest , EXPORT and IMPORT settings for future versions. I generally try to install to different folders for just in case (Might not be a very ideal way still..). Might be while installing if Everything senses an earlier version running it can concur on whether to adapt the running versions settings always tracked either to the program folder or the Appdata folder. ThankU.

An export option could be done easily, importing on the other hand is quite difficult and would require you to restart Everything.

An easy way to import/export is to copy the entire Everything folder and just replace the Everything.exe
For portability, Everything will always use the same location as the executable for storing data by default.

Thanks for the suggestions.
