possible to have portable and installer side by side?

So I use stardocks start11 and a big feature of their v2 update was the addition of everything integration for the search. the unfortunate part is that its not working for me.

I thought it was perhaps due to the fact im using the portable version and not the installer so i inquired on their forums. In response i received "It needs to be running in the background which it would be by default when installed." but no specifics on what it looks for.

No idea if its the service, the executable, or something in the registry, or if it is in fact just checking running programs for everything (which mine is always running) and maybe just not working due to using the 1.5 alpha version.

TLDR i want to test/troubleshoot by installing everything but I dont want to muck up my portable install. Can i run the installer for the non alpha just to see without any interference?

Everything 1.4 will not interfere with Everything 1.5 alpha.

Everything 1.5 (installed or portable) runs in a "1.5a" instance.



If Everything 1.5 is working for you, please consider not installing 1.4 and disabling the 1.5a instance:

• In Everything 1.5, from the Tools menu, click Options.
• Click the Advanced tab on the left.
• To the right of Show settings containing, search for:
  alpha
• Select alpha_instance.
• Set the value to: false
• Click OK.
• Restart Everything (File -> Exit)

Stardocks start11 should work with Everything 1.5 once this 1.5a instance is disabled.
