Folders extracted are not showing proper timestamps in everything 1363a

Post by anmac1789 »

Hello, I noticed that the latest everything version 1364a is not indexing folder properties properly. I've extracted the highlighted folders in the zip file into local drive and viewed the folder in everything but it's showing incorrect dates and times. I've extracted the zip file using the following switches -ts -tsp -e+d ( which extracts folders only and preserves the date modified, date created and date accessed timestamps). Can anyone please try to take a look and see if it works for them ?

Here is what switches/settings I used to extract folders only with WinRAR:

Timestamps of folders are dynamically updated by Windows when one one of the files in that folder changes.
The settings you configured are for files.

What date/time is shown in Explorer for these folders?

BTW: Some programs do have an option to change that folder timestamp later on again.

double checked on windows, windows only shows the date created for folders. Windows explorer will not show the date modified and date accessed for folders by default that's why I chose everything to display the full timestamps for folders

Not just files the switches -ts -tsp works for folders as well as files

The same timestamps as inside the archive on windows explorer but everything displays them incorrectly. I've tried rebuilding the index and rescanning the C drive still no update

Is the issue with folders only?
Are files showing the correct date modified?
Could you please show a screenshot of the properties window where a folder is showing the incorrect date modified in Everything.

The date modified on folders will update with any change to a child file/folder.

Does reindexing your U: drive help? (Tools -> Options -> NTFS -> U: -> Right click -> Reindex)

Does disabling OpenFileByID help?:
  • In Everything 1.5, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the Advanced tab on the left.
  • To the right of Show settings containing, search for:
    ntfs
  • Select ntfs_open_file_by_id.
  • Set the value to: false
  • Click OK.

The default on Windows is still to show the modified date for files and folders.
So you have changed some settings.

As you can see in all of these screenshots, the folder timestamps are not there for the backup\ , Inventory\ and OLG\ folders but the folder timestamps do exist for Desktop\ and Abid\ folders which somehow when extracted, everything does not update those timestamps.

As you can see I have disabled ntfs_open_file_by_id and the folders are still showing 2024 timestamps.

Thanks for the information anmac1789,

What is shown for the Windows Explorer Properties for one of these folders?

Could you please try re-extracting this zip file after disabling ntfs_open_file_by_id.

Does Everything pickup the correct date modified now?

The problem was winrar. I had to extract those folders one by one, but the ones without the dates have current date and time substituted since they were virtual folders
