Been having some issues with Everything for a couple of months or so:
  • Constantly have to keep rebuilding my index
Everything keeps launching User Access Control every time I launch from the task bar, so I keep having to click Yes, ever time I launch it.
I'm using Version 1.4.1.1-24 (x64) on latest Win 10 update. Never ever had any issues with Everything until these problems started.

The UAC prompt should not be shown.
Everything should only index once.

Please make sure Everything is installed correctly and running as a standard user:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the General tab on the left.
  • Check Store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything.
  • Uncheck Run as administrator.
  • Check Everything Service. (Please make sure this is tick-checked and not square-checked)
  • Click OK.
  • Exit Everything (right click the Everything tray icon and click Exit).
  • Restart Everything.

Please try increasing the USN Journal maximum size for your drives:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the NTFS tab on the left.
  • For each NTFS volume:
    • Change Maximum size to: 131072 KB
  • Click OK.

Thank you for the fast response and clear, specific instructions, David.

In General options, everything was as you prescribed. It turns out the taskbar shortcut I was using specified 'Run as Administrator'. D'OH. Won't be making that mistake again.

Looks like the USN max. journal size helped. Mine was set at a (default?) of 2048.
