Does Everything reduce like of SSDs

Post by sangland »

I have installed Everything because my SSD software turned off windows indexing. Does Everything work the same way as Windows indexing? Should I move the ET database off the SSD to an external drive (not really practical on a laptop). Great tool BTW.

Everything indexing is different to Windows, Everything reads the MFT directly from NTFS volumes, the database is created in memory and is only saved to disk when you exit Everything.
I am not sure where Windows indexes are stored, so can't really comment on that.

It is not necessary to move Everything's DB off the SSD, Everything only writes a couple of MB to the disk when saving the DB.

Most SSD's have 10000+ write cycles, on a 60GB SSD it would take Everything (Exiting Everything ~10 times a day) 16000+ years to reach this limit.

10000 write cycles * 60000 MB / 100 MB a day = 16438 years

Should you wish to move the DB you can change the location from Tools -> Options -> Indexes.
