Indexing Working or Not?

Post by witzph1 »

I'm indexing a really large shared drive with Everything installed on my own computer. It's been running for a couple of days, but today now says "Not Responding." The Task Manager seems to indicate Everything is still working hard.

Should I kill the task or leave it?

Also, if files are changing on the shared drive all day long, which they undoubtedly are, is it trying to restart all the time? I wish there was a progress bar to give me some indication of where and what it is doing.

Please let Everything run.
It should eventually recover.

No.
Your NAS hardware will determine indexing performance.

Everything 1.5 will show progress in the status bar (hover over the status to view the current folder being scanned)

If the issue persists, could you please send a mini crash dump: Privacy

I let it go last night, and this morning it seems to have recovered as you say. That is, it doesn't say "not responding" anymore, and I don't have a spinning wheel. It is still says "Rescanning" next to the T: drive, so it must not be done yet, so I'll let it go.

I am using 1.4, so I will upgrade. Love the tool. It is very valuable in my job.

I honestly don’t know the answer to those questions as Inam no longer in charge of servers in this large company Innow work for. I do want to report that the indexing did finish after about 5 or 6 days. (It stopped sometime on the weekend.) So it was good advice to let it go when I thought it was not responding. And I will be upgrading to the latest version which should also help.
