Cant preview STL Files.

Post by Jolly »

Not sure what the best way to debug is: For STL files, thumbnails work in everything, (but not explorer).
Preview pane works in explorer, but not in everything. It shows the STL as text.

I have enabled the STL thumbnails in MS PowerToys.
This works for me in Explorer, Everything and Total Commander

Your %TEMP%\Everything Debug Log.txt can grow very large.

Please disable Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> debug_log

Please try capturing a debug log when showing an STL preview:
  • After changing the above advanced setting, please restart Everything (File -> Exit)
  • In Everything 1.5, from the Tools menu, under the Debug menu, click Start debug logging.
  • Select a STL file with the preview pane shown.
  • From the Tools menu, under the Debug menu, click Stop debug logging.
---This will open your %TEMP%\Everything Debug Log.txt in Notepad.
  • Please upload this file to /bugreport
This log will show the registry key used by Everything to display the preview.

Could you please send your registry entries for STL files:
  • From the Start menu, search for: regedit
  • Right click Registry Editor and click Run as administrator.
  • In the Registry Editor, navigate to:
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.stl
  • From the File menu, click Export...
  • Check Selected branch and choose a filename. (eg: stl.reg on the Desktop)
  • Please upload this file to /bugreport
