external HDD indexing is very slow~~~

Post by jellygarden »

I have a HP notebook. It includes a hdd of 320G.Everyting is really fast when indexing this hdd, like in 5 seconds complete.
But when I plug the external USB HDD(2T,NTFS),the index is very slow, more than 10minutes.The most files in the external HDD are more than 300MB(APEs FLACs etc),so the number of the files is not too much.
So I do not know how to improve the speed of indexing the external HDD.

ps.OS: windows7

USB2? USB3? USB1?

Run a CHKDSK on the drive.

Does doing something like a DIR /S take abnormally long too?

Perhaps it is the particular (Everything) settings set for that drive?
(Of which I'd know not what to suggest other then to compare the USN Journal Size & Delta numbers to your other drives.)

Do the files change a lot?
If not you might disable auto-detect on that drive & instead use the File Lists feature, only updating it every so often.

------done , but nothing changed
