It does not look like the latest version of Everything works on Win 8.1.
I just get a c: drive listed (all other OSs show a long list of files on startup) and no results when I type in something that I know is present. I use the whole word search mode.
Win 8.1 is not my main OS by any means (I hate it) but I got it for experimentation.
Anybody have any issues too?

Are you using the Everything service?
Instead of the Service, did you try 'Run As Administrator'?

I've just installed the latest beta build of Everything on my Windows 8.1 virtual machine and everything (pun intended 
) works fine.
Go to 'Tools' > 'Options' and under 'General' > 'Results' check if 'Hide results when the search is empty' is selected. If yes, uncheck it.
