Importing old database?

Post by dennisqwilson »

I had a hard drive crash yesterday that caused me to lose several thousand files. I think I can replace most of them, but it will be incalculably easier if I know exactly what they are. Luckily, I have a system backup from two weeks ago containing, among other things, my Everything folder and database as they were at the time. Is there any way I can import that database from the backup and get a listing of all the files that were then on my former "J" drive?

Thanks.

I'm rusty, so not sure if this is correct, or not...?
Or if there might be a post or FAQ laying around...?

If you're using the 1.2.x version of Everything, there is a 1.2.1.389b that does not do updating.

If you're using the 1.3.x ...?

Perhaps...

Disable all checkboxes in Tools | Indexes | NTFS
Exit (completely) Everything
Copy your backed up .db overtop the existing
Fire up Everything & see if it then uses that
?

And make sure you keep backups of your backup ;-).

Thanks for your help. I couldn't find version 1.2.1.389b but note that there is a version 1.2.1.369b on the downloads page. Will that do?

I'm assuming you were using a 1.2.x series already?
Otherwise if you were on 1.3.x don't know if this would even help, but you can try?

Here, 1.2.1.389b.zip.

Yes, I'm using version 1.3.3.658 (x64), but I will try the earlier one tonight. Thank you again.

Unfortunately, that didn't work. Is there any other way to convert a saved database file into a format that's readable offline?
