the content in the search bar changed automatically into previously searched location

Post by void_hero »

Hi Team,

Version 1.5.0.1303a (x64)

background:
"Show window Hotkey", configed to be(e.g.): ctrl+e
there's a folder e.g.: C:\testing

scenario:
search "testing"
->
Enter striking to be inside "C:\testing\"
->
ctrl+e striking to back into Everything;
->
noticing in the search bar, it displays: "C:\testing\"

question:
it's using the previously searched location as the new search input, why? in previous versions, there's no this behavior.

expectation:
no change in the search bar in the above mentioned scenario.

Thanks for the consideration & possible fulfilment.

Are you pressing Ctrl + E from a Windows Explorer window?

-If so, Everything 1301+ will set the search to the current folder from the Windows Explorer window.

To disable this feature:
  • In Everything, type in the following search and press ENTER:
    /hotkey_explorer_path_search=0
  • If successful, hotkey_explorer_path_search=0 is shown in the status bar for a few seconds.

hotkey_explorer_path_search
tray_show_command_line
Default search settings

hi void,

Windows Explorer window? as a normal user, i don't quite concern about it, what i knw is: i just strike ctrl+e to invoke everything application.

and by the way:

set the search to the current folder from the Windows Explorer window? i don't find what's the meaning of it, since it's the EVERYTHING, as a daily & yearly user, my experience is that: what i want is find the file, no matter where it's located, so the folder? i don't care normally, so i think the behavior is expected to be back(at least for me).

anyway, the solution is working as you guide, thanks for the prompt reply, it's amazing back now!

Windows Explorer window?
Pressing Ctrl + E from Windows Explorer will open Everything and set your Everything search to the current active folder in Windows Explorer.

my experience is that: what i want is find the file, no matter where it's located, so the folder?
I understand and agree this should be the default.
I have reverted hotkey_explorer_path_search back to disabled by default in Everything 1.5.0.1304a.

I am considering another option here, one that will select all the search box text on the hotkey press.
Currently, enabling hotkey_explorer_path_search will move the search box caret to the end.

For new users, it might be an improvement to populate the search with the current Windows Explorer path (if one is active) and select all the text.
