Every time I restart, Everything rescans over 1.5 million records

Post by nickfbr »

How do i prevent a total rescan of 1.5million record database every time i restart my computer?
The folders i am indexing are largely on a remote server that i have mapped onto my pc. Is there a better way to select those folders? Or a faster way to rebuild the index? I can't go for hours without Everything while it indexes.
Thank you for your help.

Do you have Options -> General -> "[x]Store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything" setting enabled?

Do you have Everything installed in C:\Program Files* ?

Everything should only index once.

Everything will only save your index to disk when you exit Everything.
Please make sure Everything is exiting graceful on system shutdown.

Please make sure 'Store settings and data in %APPDATA%' is enabled as raccoon mentions above.
or, please make sure Everything has write permission to the database location.

Does the issue persist?

Store settings in %APPDATA% is checked.
Database location in in EverythingSearch folder in documents folder. i'm assuming that location is writable.
Is it normal to not be able to use everything while it's scanning? Is there a setting to allow search on an index in process of scanning / building?

The rebuild reason will be in your debug logs:
  • In Everything, type in the following search and press ENTER:
    /debug_log=1
  • Restart your PC.
  • ---wait for Everything to rescan---
  • Type in the following search and press ENTER:
    /debug_log=0
  • From the File menu, click Exit.
  • Please zip and send your %TEMP%\Everything Debug Log.txt to support@voidtools.com
