In short, run history lets you get to your frequently run files faster.

Every time you open a result in Everything, its run count is incremented by one.

The run count can be set by right-clicking a result and clicking Set Run Count.

When you press Enter from the Search box, the result with the highest run count is selected.

To sort results by run count:
  • In Everything, from the View menu, under the Sort by submenu, click Run Count.

To enable/disable run history:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the History tab on the left.
  • Uncheck Enable Run History.
  • Click OK.
When run history is disabled, the Set run count context menu item is not shown.

Thanks for that. Setting it to sort buy run showed me exactly how it works. But how do I set everything back to zero? Just clear history?

Yes that did the trick. You can also turn it off if you don't want it remembering anything.
