Sometimes Alt+TAB does not show (all) Everything windows

Post by therube »

Sometimes Alt+TAB does not show (all) Everything windows

if an "external dialog" is open from within Everything
Alt+TAB
(Win7, "aero" disabled, in case that matters)
does not (always) show an Everything icon

(sometimes it does. suppose it depends on how you go about things? like if you simply Alt+TAB
to some other program, it may not show, but if you Alt+TAB to something else, then Win+M, then
at that point, both expected icons may show?)

(two Everything windows open [not sure if that matters?])
select two files
hit Shift+DEL
- confirmation dialog comes up

Alt+TAB away to something else

Alt+TAB, holding down the Alt+Key (such that the "alt+tab /dialog/ displays")

<there should be two 'P' icons in the screenshot [below]>

(not really a big deal - most times.
as it is (in the non-existent shot), i only have a few things open. often i'll have MUCH more, like 3 rows of taskbar icons,
& if an icon goes "missing", you might not ever find it ;-).

something like this might also precipitate a "stuck" action, like where a non-modal dialog ends up
behind its' parent, & you're then not able to get back to the task...)

[aside from Alt+TAB, the Windows Taskbar does show both icons]

Thank you for the issue report therube,

It's a bug with Windows 7 and the old AltTabSettings=1 setting.
Please confirm you are using AltTabSettings=1

I can reproduce the issue here.

Create two Everything windows:
In one Everything window, set the search to: A
In the other Everything window, set the search to: B
In the A - Everything window, select multiple items.
Hold down Shift and press Delete
Press and hold Alt and tap Tab
The A - Everything window is missing.

The same issue occurs with Windows Explorer:
In one Windows Explorer window, set the address to: C:\
In the other Windows Explorer window, set the address to: D:\
In the C:\ Windows Explorer window, select multiple items.
Hold down Shift and press Delete
Press and hold Alt and tap Tab
The C:\ Windows Explorer window is missing.

It's something to do with this Delete Multiple Items shell dialog.
Maybe because its from another process.

I don't have a solution at this stage.

Screenshot for reference.
Two instances (as it happens to be).
With the 'P' instance, it shows one icon, but there should be two.
.
Everything - only shows 1 icon, 2 windows open, on alt+tab.png
Everything - only shows 1 icon, 2 windows open, on alt+tab.png (6.77 KiB) Viewed 4524 times
.
Please confirm you are using AltTabSettings=1
That setting does not exist, so I'll assume that in Win7 it is defaulted to that.
(Not even sure if there is any other mode, i.e., AltTabSettings=0 [& I'm not at a point where I want to restart Explorer to test].
And I certainly wouldn't want my Alt+TAB any other way.)

The alt+tab window shown in your screenshot is the AltTabSettings=1 one.

This is the alt+tab window that has the issue.

The issue exists with other programs, not just Everything.
I don't have a solution at this stage.
It appears to be caused by a dialog running in a different process.

I'm guessing Windows 7 uses the AltTabSettings=1 alt-tab window when your not using Aero.
