Lack of option Monitor Changes for FAT stucks Status Bar with displaying unnecessary info

Post by Thy Grand Voidinesss »

For my e.g. system drive I can choose

Tools > Options > General > Indexing > NTFS > Settings for My-System-Drive-Name (C:) > Monitor Changes

But for my pendrive there is no such option - and it is only if choose

Tools > Options > General > Indexing > FAT > Never rescan

will my Status Bar stop displaying futilely
Rescanning My-Pendrive-Name (D:)
on the left side of the info area shown in the right boom corner of the overall window of Everything

Why is that?

I mean: cannot be pendrives monitored i.e. treated like e.g. an HDD that I re-connnect every couple of days to make backup on it? Why clutter Status Bar with info about process that is not really happening? And why do I have to close and re-open Everything in order for this Never rescan choice to kick in [i.e. remove the "Rescanning My-Pendrive-Name (D:)" info from Status Bar]?

I am using Everything 1.5.0.1346a x64 Portable on Windows 10 Enterprise 20H2

FAT volumes have an "Attempt to monitor changes" option.

Everything uses ReadDirectoryChanges to detect changes on FAT volumes.
Everything uses the USN Journal to detect changes on NTFS volumes.

ReadDirectoryChanges can miss changes.
The USN Journal will record all changes.

Everything will rescan your FAT drive daily to pickup any missed changes.
This can take several minutes.

Changing the scheduled rescan to never will not stop a scheduled rescan that has already restarted.
I will consider an option to stop the already started rescan when set to never.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Please consider converting the FAT volume to NTFS to avoid the rescanning status.
