Hi, I came accross Everything a week ago and already spent some nights exploring the features. What a powerful tool, which leaves very little to be desired!
One could be a lagre preview, and I have seen another post about a floating windows which is almost finished, and another post that after getting the focus Ctrl+Mouse wheel should zoom the pane.
I like to report is that in my v15a installation, the mouse zoom does not work, instead the main view changes (documented function, like in Windows Explorer). The reason I guess is because the Preview pane never gets the focus, which could be a bug.
Also, I like to work out, what the main usability criteria of a preview could be:
a) to give an vague idea of the content (which is already in place), and
b) a step further, to allow a sharp view of the first page without opening the associated application
My usage would be to read the main information from a document to be able to categorize it, such as the issuer, date, and amount from an invoice (tif, jpg, pdf), to pre-account receipts. Also, being a photographer, I would use the preview to judge if a picture is sharp or blurred.
One way to achieve this is a magnifying zone which can be moved around with the mouse. Just zooming into the center would not be pleasing as much. Rendeing the native resolution with the ability to pan the croped view with the mouse "behind" the view frame would be space saving. The display area could be an external window or an area within the main window. An external window would be beneficial because it could be sized bigger without affecting the main window which could stay lean and unchanged in its proportions.
Finally, I like to mark-off what in my opinion would be second to main functionality of a preview:
- attempts to replace associated applications, which includes scrolling through a multi-page document, and
- sophisticated docking functionality, including flexible layouts.
Cheers
Preview Pane ZOOM (feature request)
Re: Preview Pane ZOOM (feature request)
Thank you for your feedback runmode,
Everything uses the system to render previews.
Third party programs can install preview handlers.
It's up to these preview handlers to handle focus and mousewheel events.
Everything does use it's own built-in preview handler for images.
I will consider adding support to zoom in with the built-in preview handler for images.
I would like to add my own built-in document preview handler at some stage too.
Thank you for your suggestions.
