V1.5a behaves strange - network share data disappears

Post by blawusch »

Hi, long term v1.4 user here. The past years I was happy with this setup:
- Laptop running Windows 10 with NTFS and SE
- NAS exclusively used by name not drive leter (\\nas\media)
- Let SE index the NAS every 6 hours via symbolic name "add folder", "\\nas\media"
- Even when the laptop is not seeing the NAS I can find files using SE
- that was working great for years even on 5 TB NAS shares

Version 1.5a behaves differently and kills my use case:
- As soon as I add the NAS share as folder it gets moved automatically to "Network share"
- at some point when there is a short network issue or the laptop was in power save the network share entry is removed, not coming back and the index gone

How can I change the behavior to the old version or fix this issue?

Thanks a lot!

Thank you for your feedback blawusch,

What is "Network share"?

Do you mean the Network drive tab?

Please make sure Everything is installed correctly and running as a standard user:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the General tab on the left.
  • Check Store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything.
  • Uncheck Run as administrator.
  • Check Everything Service. (Please make sure this is tick-checked and not square-checked)
  • Click OK.
  • Exit Everything (right click the Everything tray icon and click Exit).
  • Restart Everything.

Please let me know if the issue persists.

Ok, thanks, not sure what happened - after de-/reinstalling everything (no pun intended) now v1.5a seems to handle the network share on the samba server persistently and not to forget it.

My question: I would like to see all indexed network files using the UNC path over a network drive letter (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uniform_Naming_Convention)

So I prefer seeing "\\nas\media\file1, \\nas\media\file2" instead of "X:\\media\file1".

In Everything 1.4 this was possible and the standard - I just added "\\nas" to the folders list and it worked. In v1.5a I add "\\nas" to the folders list but it is automatically removed and added to "Networks drives" as "media (\\nas) (X:)

Any chance I can get the old behavior back?

Please try indexing each nas share

For example:

\\nas\share
\\nas\share2
\\nas\share3
etc..

Everything 1.4 does not have support for indexing \\nas
However, it does have support for \\nas\share

Everything 1.5 does have support for indexing \\nas
However, indexing \\nas\share is preferred as gathering each share from \\nas can be a little finicky.

Does the issue persist if you index each share as \\nas\share?

Thanks, that seems to work!

Another issue - v1.5 lost its config multiple times - is this an issue of V1.4 being installed still and v1.5a being configured to API v1.4?
