Tree view available?

Post by Biff »

Is there a tree view available (e.g. on the left side) that shows the folders / files similar to e.g. Win Explorer? Especially for managing / cataloging my (external) drives / hard disks I would use it in connection to the "index folders" option.

Try HDDB he supports the tree view, unfortunately, the official site is off, but Google will certainly find.

And why HDDB for you does not work, what errors show up? - Maybe you have not such a version.

The external drive W: obviously is scanned but not shown in the search window, I do not have any idea, why:

The log:

"I:\programs\HDDB\hddb.exe" build --dbdir "I:\programs\HDDB\own databases\\" --delegate S
Openning database..
Database opened.

Building drive S
(NTFS Mode)
Doing full scan
Assertion failed: LoadMFT returns zero
Scanning changes
0 change records processed.
Drive build done (1950 ms)

Writing database..

HDDB which version you have?
What is the file system on the drive W?

Are you sure you provided a good log? because it is mentioned on the disk S - and the list of drives can not see such a disk. Try to delete all the files in the folder .hddb and build a database again - maybe this will help.

Many thankssalazor.

I have the newest version of Hddb.

NTFS on all the drives.
Are you sure you provided a good log?
Sorry, no, I have any idea of logs, it is the one created by Hddb.
because it is mentioned on the disk S - and the list of drives can not see such a disk
It is the same with S:, S: is not shown in Hddb as well and other drives.

There once was a tool bar / menu in those areas, but it is gone since I switched to the basic Windows color scheme: http://i.imgur.com/zAR1ikD.png
Try to delete all the files in the folder .hddb and build a database again - maybe this will help.
Done, it stays the same unfortunately.

Many thanks again.

Open notebook HDDB log in and find info about the disk W: - paste here (or the whole log).

Show what displays NTFSInfo tool about the disk W:.

You wrote an email to the developer HDDB?

Sorry, I am not quite sure to understand correctly. I have posted the entire log (hddb.build.log) created by Hddb here already.

Here is the content of hddb.gui.log:

--------------- gui crashed ---------------
-- hddb info --
Hddb version: 4.4.0, 32 bit
Hddb home: I:\Programme\HDDB\Datenbanken\
Portable: N
-- Search info --
Last search: A:\---- ent\
Show what displays NTFSInfo tool about the disk W:.
Alright, I will to at next occasion.

I have just tried Hddb on another Notebook, the same behavior, not shown any external drive, not V:, Y:, etc. All NTFS formated.
You wrote an email to the developer HDDB?
Yes, I did, no answer. I assume, the development is discontinued, the Hddb website is not available anymore obviously.

Many thanks.

When I double click the exe files nothing appears to happen. I have any idea how to use it.

Here is a log of the folder you told me to delete (the content of hddb.build.log):

Doing full scan

A a further log:

This program is a console (command line)
Place the .exe in Windows or System32 folder or specify the full path to the file where it ntfsinfo.exe now you have - then open cmd (Start - Run ..., type cmd Enter) paste command

Code: Select all

ntfsinfo w:
and show what is displayed here.
Here is a log of the folder you told me to delete (the content of hddb.build.log):

"I:\Programme\HDDB\hddb.exe" build --dbdir "C:\Users\Endo\.hddb\\" --delegate

Here, a similar problem - there is no solution, but it is worth reading may just have you.

See yet program NTFS-search how to behave on external devices and let me know - parsing drive is used with this program in HDDB.

It shows for some external drives (all of them have NTFS system), e.g. V:, something like "No NTFS drive" when trying to load them but in the drop down menu it shows "V: (NTFS)". And NTFS-Search crashes all the time.

So I thought a bug in the code, I have the same disk C: only with me an access violation - unfortunately they did not fix it, you need a programmer who will eliminate the error in the code.

I am not quite sure to understand it correctly, but obviously the programs appear to be a bit trashy.

Many thanks for letting me try those programs.
