iexplore.exe not in C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer

Post by mreg »

Hi!

Often happens that I can't find program exe files on my computer. Here is the latest one: iexplore.exe is not found in C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer.
Other iexplore.exe files are found in paths like "C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-i..etexplorer-optional_31bf3856ad364e35_10.2.9200.17229_none_16afb1581e21dbf3" or many other folders but not in the programs folder.

It happens with other exe files also.

I tried to create a new empty file iexplore2.exe in C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer and it is found! :?

Thanks !

This would be a hardlink.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
and
C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-i..etexplorer-optional_31bf3856ad364e35_10.2.9200.17229_none_16afb1581e21dbf3\iexplore.exe
are the same physical file.

The currently release of Everything does not index all hard links.
The next Everything release will support indexing all hardlinks.

Is there an estimated or known release date for the next version of Everything?

Thanks! This is new for me, it's a new Microsoft "feature" ? Up to WinXP iexplore.exe was a real file, this hardlink stuff was not known to me up to now.

Thanks for looking!
