Keep search terms when changing between bookmarks

Post by tutman »

Hi again!

I have two bookmarks, one to search for everything and another to search for recently changed files. Each bookmark has a keyboard shortcut (CTRL-E and CTRL-R). When I change between bookmarks using these hotkeys, search terms disappear and I have to type them again. Is there any option to check so the terms does not disappear when doing this? Thanks!

Like all the other bookmark options I need to add a "Remember Search" option.
Currently, there is no way to do this with bookmarks.

I've added this to my TODO list, thanks for the suggestion.

Please consider using filters, filters will not change the search.

tutman,
I think that the right way to solve this currently is not by bookmarks.
Bookmarks for my understanding behaves as "Saved Searches", a snapshot for the all search settings.
This should clear the search terms, if you leave the "search" field in bookmarks setting empty. [There is no <keep> option]

In your case, the solution IMHO is:
To search for everything:
Menu > Search > Organize Filters... > Edit: Everything > Ctrl+E in Keyboard shortcut

To search for recently changed files:
Menu > Tools > Options > Keyboard (Tab) > Show commands containing
(Type to Find:)
View | Sort by | Date Recently Changed
Add...
Set Ctrl+R in Shortcut Key

Thanks for yous answer, both of you.

Stamimail: problem with filters in this case (I was using them already before) is that I can't short results by "run count" or "date". Bookmarks do give you the "short by" option.

Samimail, your solution works, but it miss the "short by" option. For example, when im searching for everything, i need the results to be shorted by run count. When searching for recently changed, i need the results to be shorted by date /newer > older. This is not possible using filters. Bookmarks has an option to select the shorting method. Thanks for your answers.

I've added the option to "remember" the search for bookmarks in Everything 1.4.0.713b

Thanks, Void! I've already installed the new version. Thing is, even when "remember search" is checked, when changing from one bookmark to another using hotkeys the search terms disappear. Is this expected? Thanks.

Yes this is expected when "remember search" is enabled.

Please uncheck "remember search" if you wish to leave the search unchanged.
