Suggestion: Notify user when keyboard settings in Search filters conflict with those set in Options

Post by driste »

Keyboard settings for Search filters can be the same as settings in Options > Keyboard. There is no notification of conflicts.

For example, I like to use Ctrl+p to activate my ext:pdf filter. I can set this as my keyboard shortcut while the default keyboard shortcut for Options is also set to Ctrl+p. The Options keyboard setting overrides the filter keyboard setting but doesn't alter it or notify me of the conflict. However, conflicts WITHIN the Options keyboard settings are are noted in the "Shortcut key currently used by" box. (When I set my PDF filter to Ctrl+p, I go into Options and remove the default Ctrl+p shortcut for Options.)

Ideally, the user should be alerted to conflicts between keyboard shortcuts in Search filters and those in Options. I guess this would require adding the "Shortcut key currently used by" function to the Search filter edit dialog.

Thank you for your suggestion.

Showing conflicting filter/bookmark keyboard shortcuts is on my TODO list.

Shortcut keys are processed in the following order:
  • Keyboard shortcuts set in Tools -> Options -> Keyboard.
  • Specific Control keyboard shortcuts.
  • Bookmark keyboard shortcuts.
  • Filter keyboard shortcuts.
Only one action is performed.

So bookmark and filter keyboard shortcuts will not work if they are already defined in Tools -> Options -> Keyboard.
