Downside of no "run in background"?

What's the downside of unchecking "run in background"? If it's unchecked, if I create a new file, open Everything, and search for it, it still finds it immediately.

The downside is the few seconds it takes to load and update the database.

Loading the database takes about one second (1 million files).
The database is updated from the USN Change Journal and can take a few seconds depending on the number of changes since the database was last saved.

If the USN Change Journal is out of date from too many file name changes then "Everything" will rebuild the database from scratch.
If you find "Everything" is often rebuilding the database when started try increasing the maximum size of the USN Change Journal to at least 32768 KB.

To change the USN Change Journal maximum size:

• In "Everything", from the Tools menu, click Options.
• Click the Volumes tab.
• For each volume in the Local NTFS volumes list:
• Set the Maximum size to 32768 KB.
• Repeat for each volume.
• Click OK.

Thanks so much for the detailed info. I absolutely love the program, and it should become a staple in all PCs. It's better than what the multi-billion dollar company of Microsoft could come up with. Maybe they should cut you a check to use this in Win7
