MS Office docs lose focus when opened from Everything Window

Post by cboshdave »

When I double click on the file I want to open in the Everything search window, a word document opens for example. If I start typing in the word doc, for some reason, I get a few letters and the focus to word just goes away. No cursor, no typing, nothing. This also happens with Excel. If I open the folder from Everything and then double click the file from windows explorer, it's fine. This happens regularly. I can't figure out what would cause this behavior. I tried to search for a similar bug, no luck. It's not the end of the world, just a weird annoyance. Because I LOVE Everything!

Thanks,
Dave

What OS?
(Win10, I see a lot of lost focus [unrelated to Everything] that I attribute to, oh, the goodness of 10, doing all kinds of "stuff" that is unrelated to an OS working - properly.)

If 10, which version of it?

Please try running Everything as a standard user:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the General tab on the left.
  • Check Everything service.
  • Uncheck Run as administrator.
  • Click OK.
  • Exit Everything (right click the Everything tray icon and click Exit).
  • Restart Everything.

This also helped resolve an issue where Office 365 (on OneDrive) files would open when double clicked from Search Everything but would fail to sync to Onedrive using the Autosave feature. Was about to give up on Search Everything after so many years of use.
