Hi!
I've been trying to replace Windows key + F keyboard shortcut, but with no success.
I would like to this feature will be included in options, since I'm used yo use this shortcut for windows search but with Everything I don't need it anymore.
This don't work even if I select this combination on Everything options.
Windows 7 64bit Ultimate, Everything 1.2.1.371
Thank you
Replace Win+F keyboard Shortcut
Re: Replace Win+F keyboard Shortcut
Yes, I vote for this too. I've been searching for a way to make Win F open Everything instead of the windows search, without success as yet. Anyone know how?
EDIT: a workaround is here: http://forum.voidtools.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=955 It would still be good if it were programmed into Everything though as most users wouldn't have a clue how to do this.

Re: Replace Win+F keyboard Shortcut
I also think it would be great to have this option built in Everything.

Re: Replace Win+F keyboard Shortcut
It's obvious that many users want to replace the sluggish Windows search completely. But I'd suggest to configure [Win]+[KeyAboveWin] as an alternative. On a German keyboard, Y is above [Win] so [Win]+[Y] does the job and it's common habit for me now to press this combination - which is, in my opinion, much more handy and ergonomic than [Win]+[F]!
Thus I still have [Win]+[F] when I need Windows search in rare cases, e.g. more detailed searches for groups of files (filtered by name + size + date etc.)
Just my 2c,
Hans

Re: Replace Win+F keyboard Shortcut
Locate32 can do this with a reg file. Maybe we can adapt this one for Everything.
Search protocol - Unregister.reg
I hope someone will find a way to adapt these files. Thanks !
Search protocol - Register.reg :In Windows Vista SP1 it's possible to specify default desktop search application using
"Default programs" (Control Panel). Before you can use Locate32 as the default desktop
search application, you need to register Locate32 "search:" protocol. This protocol can
be registered/unregistered using these registry patch files.
To make Locate32 as the default desktop search application, do the following:
1. Open "Search protocol - Register.reg" file to text editor (e.g. Notepad) and check
that Locate32 directory is correct (default is C:\Program Files\Locate).
2. Merge "Search protocol - Register.reg" file by double clicking it
3. Open "Default Programs", choose "Associate a file type or protocol with a program".
Find a protocol "SEARCH" and choose "Change Program" (you can also double click the
protocol). Choose "Locate32".
Note that when Locate32 is the default desktop search application, you don't need to
assign Win+F, F3 and Ctrl+F keys (as keyboard hooks) in Locate32 to open Locate32
dialog using those keys. These keys will open Locate32 dialog even if locate32.exe is
not running.
Code: Select all
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Locate32-search]
@="Locate32 search protocol"
