Index Journal Settings

Post by Stamimail »

I only read this:
viewtopic.php?f=12&t=9792

and saw:
The Index Journal might be useful to undo an accidental move or rename outside of Everything.
Think of the Index Journal as a global file system undo.
Change journal settings

By default the Index Journal will only store 1MB of changes.
1MB will store about 5000 file changes.

To change the maximum number of items the Index Journal can store:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the Indexes tab on the left.
  • Set a new Maximum Size in KB. (1024 KB is the default)
  • Click OK.
I think a user sometimes will want to undo his USER actions.
and sometimes will want to undo Windows SYSTEM actions.

So I guess the user needs filters (ALL|SYSTEM|USER) to filter the results.
OR
Different indexes for SYSTEM and USER.
Think about a user that wants "undo" for his last 3 weeks actions. He can't select by period of time.
Consider a "Settings..." button in:
1. Index Journal diaog
2. Options > Indexes (tab) > [V]Enable Journal [Settings...]

will open Settings dialog for the Index Journal.

Thank you for your suggestions Stamimail,
I think a user sometimes will want to undo his USER actions.
There's no real way to determine if an action is a user action or a system action.

For actions performed in Everything, use the Undo System under the Edit menu in Everything.

For user actions performed in Windows, use Edit -> Undo in Windows Explorer.
Think about a user that wants "undo" for his last 3 weeks actions. He can't select by period of time.
I will consider a 'date' range option.
Consider a "Settings..." button in:
I will look into adding an options button in the Index Journal Dialog.

Thank you for your suggestions.

The user will be able to assign and use Filter of file/folders. For example:

SYSTEM
c:\windows|"c:\program files"

USER:
!c:\windows

I do plan to add support for operators to all search boxes (including the Index Journal search box).
I also plan to add search history support to some of these search boxes.

This would be a start for making it easier to limit the Index Journal to c:\windows|"c:\program files"

I will consider a filter bar for the Index Journal.
Thank you for your suggestions.
