Donating in different currencies

Post by ChrisGreaves »

Have I mis-understood the screens for donations?

The initial screen offers a choice of currencies. I live in Canada and my bank accounts are Canadian, and each month I reconcile my accounts in $CAD, so in this screen I elect to donate in $CAD.
I reason that by entering the amount in $CAD, then that amount will correspond to my bank statements at the end of the month.
I will donate by a credit card.

But then, on the next screen I am coerced into paying in $US!
The text cursor is firmly lodged between the dollar-sign and the leading zero.

I do not think that this is a fault of Void, and certainly not a bug in Everything, 1.4 or 1.5 :D

I am mainly wondering if I have not yet worked out how to use the donation screens.

And yes, I know how to look up today''s exchange rate; and I know how to use Excel
And of course, this will not prevent me donating to VoidTools each month

Thanks, Chris

Hi,

You can donate either with PayPal or VISA, etc.

For a donation with PayPal, the currency USD is currently the default.
With the drop-down menu, you can change the currency to another currency, e.g. CAD.
You have to click on the “Donate with PayPal” button to make the donation in CAD currency with PayPal.

Option: You can tick the following in PayPal:
English:   ✅ This is to be a monthly donation
German:  ✅ Dies soll eine monatlich Spende sein

If you click on the “Donate with VISA,...” button below, and the currency US$ cannot be changed,
then that's just the way it is at the moment, i.e. the donation amount must be in US$ currency with VISA, etc.
Perhaps a dropdown for “Currency” could be added here as well?

Thanks Tuska, for the confirmation that it's "not me" nor "my laptop"

I agree that a second drop-down could be useful. But that thought is based on a higher-level, crudely stated as "Why offer currency conversion in one part and not the other".
Cheers, and thanks again.
